Ye...And I'm hungry just reading about it all :)
Yes, in the States, that is a custard pie. Pies here can have open sides or a lattice work top, or a completely covering pastry top, OR even a sweet crumb topping. As for me? I'll take any pie I can get. To me, pies are better than cake any day.
Arlene, my favorite line of yours today was:"I've had it a week and have got to page 79." Custard PIE, hmmm a pie is something [to us] that is encased completely in pastry, whether meat or fruit, the custard slice is open on all sides. you don't know what you've missed. Before I started this diet, I bought a box of two at the weekend and had one SAt, one on Sunday. But please don't let it interfere with your blogging. or burd photography.Arlenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06493608700532494612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6678033041062524907.post-9607764288646485132010-11-18T20:00:40.041+00:002010-11-18T20:00:40.041+00:00OK Wifie, a custard slice is a bottom layer of fla...OK Wifie, a custard slice is a bottom layer of flaky pastry then add a thick layer of rather thick custard, I think maybe you call that cornstarch, but maybe I'm wrong, anyhow it's yellow and vanilla flavoured, solid but squashy, when it's thinner you pour it on to fruit or sponge pudding, then it's got another layer of flaky pastry topped with icing, they're about 4 x 2", also done in apple and cream and around 400 calories. Yummy.Arlenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06493608700532494612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6678033041062524907.post-53053056889406637982010-11-18T19:59:57.628+00:002010-11-18T19:59:57.628+00:00I love to read but have had to put the books on ho...I love to read but have had to put the books on hold until we can finish paying for my new specs. What our library needs is a larger selection of large print books for old geezers like me. I can increase the font size on my laptop and still read but the strain still causes my eyes to tire and about an hour at a time is all I can manage before I have to take a break.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08812329358511747697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6678033041062524907.post-10947995424119470962010-11-18T18:46:40.532+00:002010-11-18T18:46:40.532+00:00You must explain to us Yanks what a slice of custa...You must explain to us Yanks what a slice of custard is.The Gaelic Wifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13042569769234227354noreply@blogger.com
