Jason's Tart

My son in law Jason well he's Karen's long time partner of 14 years, is quite a good cook, well a very good cook, has now  decided to try his hand at baking. I went over on Sunday as mentioned before, and they decided to go out to eat as the cooker had gone Kaput! and he wasn't going to do a full Sunday roast and all the trimmings in the little emergency oven as he's used to the Aga. He was baking an Apple and Blueberry tart and he thought it was OK for that. We came back from the carvery and were looking forward to the tart with custard or cream for dessert. It looked and smelt lovely., and I asked if he cooked the base blind, he looked at me and said in all seriousness " No, I had my glasses on" [he wears them,] Karen and I looked at each other and just fell about laughing. He looked quite hurt, We explained what we meant, and of course he hadn't cos he didn't know he had to. It was a bit soggy and uncooked. Jason was mortified as he takes quite a pride in his cookery, and was a bit defensive, but he did admit that the bottom pastry wasn't quite 'right'., He'll take that on board and the next one will be just right.
He was feeling a bit sensitive, as on the way home he got his fingers trapped in the window, He'd a some wine so Karen drove, she felt a draught and pressed the button to shut the window, when there was this godalmighty yell, Jason had his hand out of the car with his fingers on the window top. we all nearly wet ourselves laughing, even Rhianna laughed at the time and said only Dad would do that. Even now I'm having a chuckle , so it was no wonder he was a bit miffed at us having a go about his tart.

  5. Not to worry, Jason; I'm a good cook, as well, and have no idea what cooking blind means.....and I wear glasses, too! That said, I'm not about to ask my wife to explain the term because she'll roll the window up on MY fingers.....and laugh about it!
