Listening to the radio to-day 'Desert Island Discs' actually, the guest requested a song by Andy Williams, The theme from Exodus, it was beautiful, the soft yet rich tones of a truly great singer, and a wonderful sad ,powerful song had me transported back in time when there were such ballad singers like this, Frank Sinatra, Vic Damone, Perry Como Matt Munro, Tony Bennett etc. We never hear singers like this any more, and such a pity, as they really made you 'feel' the song, and more to the point, you heard every word. My personal favourite was Nat King Cole, he of the velvet caress in his voice. Oh well back to the present, but it's nice to reminisce.
Thank you for visiting and please come back, Arlene, Tango and Ruby
If you come on here looking for some mind-blowing conversation or profound words of wisdom, well you've come to the wrong place and will be disappointed. I'm just an ordinary bod who likes to share my day with anyone who cares to listen. Tales of my dogs, my garden, my family and happenings in my life that I feel might just be amusing....If you're happy with that, draw up a chair, light up a ciggie if you wish or have a cup of tea and make yourself at home.
I miss those wonderful old singers too. I saw Andy Williams in concert at Branson MO quite a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteMy very favorite was Guy Mitchell. Do you remember him? xx
I agree, Arlene, these are some of my favorite artists as well.
ReplyDeleteHow lucky was that then Beth, I've never seen any of these guys in the flesh, as not many came to Uk where I am, or if they did I probably couldn't afford to go, :-( and yes I remeber Guy Mitchell, SHe wears Red Feathers, good bouncy singer.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandie, thanks for calling, bet your head is buzzing with old favourites now. :-)
ReplyDeleteHIya Arlene (and Ruby Tuesday)...Long time I know, but better late than never eh?... I've bought a new laptop and getting used to all the settings ....so any miss-spelling you can blame on my fingers using a very different keyboard. My Great Uncle said he saw Matt Munro on a train years ago (when he was alive of course... *cough*).... said he loved his singing voice, the tone . Gotta dash but lots of hugs to you and Ruby babe...xPenx
ReplyDeleteI'll try and keep in contact but life has changed so much lately. Fingers crossed that I'll do an update soon.
Well, well well, how lovely to hear from you Pen, I thought you'd left us forever, and whatever kept you away I hope is a thing of the past and you will be back blogging, I gave up for a while then came back to have another 'go'
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll soon get to grips with the new laptop and will be regaling us with your poetry and words of wisdom, look forward to it
Love from me and Ruby XX
